A Note on Characteristic Classes

چکیده
This paper studies the relationship between the sections and the Chern or Pontrjagin classes of a vector bundle by the theory of connection. Our results are natural generalizations of the Gauss-Bonnet Theorem.

Equivariant Characteristic Classes in the Cartan Model
This note shows the compatibility of the differential geometric and the topological formulations of equivariant characteristic classes for a compact connected Lie group action. Suppose G and S are two compact Lie groups, and P and M are manifolds. A principal G-bundle π : P → M is said to be S-equivariant if S acts on the left on both P and M in such a way that a) the projection map π is S-equi...
متن کامل0 Connections up to homotopy and characteristic classes ∗
The aim of this note is to clarify the relevance of “connections up to homotopy” [4, 5] to the theory of characteristic classes, and to present an application to the characteristic classes of Lie algebroids [3, 5, 7] (and of Poisson manifolds in particular [8, 13]). We have already remarked [4] that such connections up to homotopy can be used to compute the classical Chern characters. Here we p...
متن کاملA note on primary-like submodules of multiplication modules
Primary-like and weakly primary-like submodules are two new generalizations of primary ideals from rings to modules. In fact, the class of primary-like submodules of a module lie between primary submodules and weakly primary-like submodules properly. In this note, we show that these three classes coincide when their elements are submodules of a multiplication module and satisfy the primeful pr...
متن کاملM-theory and characteristic classes
In this note we show that the Chern-Simons and the one-loop terms in the M-theory action can be written in terms of new characters involving the M-theory four-form and the string classes. This sheds a new light on the topological structure behind M-theory and suggests the construction of a theory of “higher” characteristic classes. متن کاملEquivariant Characteristic Classes of Singular Complex Algebraic Varieties
Homology Hirzebruch characteristic classes for singular varieties have been recently defined by Brasselet-Schürmann-Yokura as an attempt to unify previously known characteristic class theories for singular spaces (e.g., MacPherson-Chern classes, BaumFulton-MacPherson Todd classes, and Goresky-MacPherson L-classes, respectively). In this note we define equivariant analogues of these classes for ...
